So school has officially been afoot for about a month now. Classes are going smoothly (hopefully) and people are getting back into the swing of things. You may be wondering why I'm posting this so late at night (1:15 AM). It's because I drank an energy drink tonight. Yeah, I know, it was a bad idea, but I really had lots of studying to do for a huge bio test tomorrow and I'm still not tired. I drank it about 3 hours ago, and I'm wide awake. Not good when you have class at 9:30 tomorrow morning. I've found that most energy drinks aren't worth it, though. They sell Amp and Rockstar here. I usually go for the Amp, never tried Rockstar. Monster makes me crash hardcore, and Red Bull is alright. Some people drink intense energy drinks, though. They have to special order them and whatnot. There's enough caffeine in one of those to keep you awake for hours on end without stopping. I'm sure it's great when you have lots of stuff to do, but afterward I would crash so hard it would not even be worth it.
Last year I usually talked about movies in every post, and I'm going to pick up that habit again. So out in theaters we have an interesting array of movies. Let's start with the grindhouse film Machete. I saw the previews and honestly thought it looked awful, straight up awful. Cheech Marin's part looked hilarious (considering the films he's done in the past), but the lead actor (who was in Spy Kids by the way) just didn't cut it for me. I was shocked, however, when I saw that Rotten Tomatoes dubbed it "Fresh" with a rating of 72%. It's hard to believe that it could possibly receive this review, until you realize that the only reason it didn't fail was because it was made to be utterly ridiculous.
Next we have The Last Exorcism. Another PG-13, low-budget, horribly acted horror movie that makes preteens quake in their movie seats. Again, I was shocked to see that this movie received 72%. Every person I've talked to that has seen this movie said it was dreadful. I don't understand how it passed, nor do I wish to go watch it to find out. I cannot handle horror movies for the life of me. I freak out so easily.
Last, but not least, we have Resident Evil: Afterlife. I'm a big fan of the Resident Evil series, both in film and video game. The video games are thoroughly entertaining, and have kept my friends and me up until the wee hours of the night. Totally worth it, by the way. When it comes to the movies, however, they seem to be rapidly descending in entertainment value. The first movie, Resident Evil, was released in 2002 and received a rating of 34%. I thought it was pretty decent, but not my favorite. The second movie, Resident Evil: Apocalypse was my favorite, although it received a review of 21% (Rotten Tomatoes seems to be biased against ridiculous zombie movies across the board). The third movie (Resident Evil: Extinction) didn't favor much better with a review of 22%. Lastly, the fourth and most recent movie, Resident Evil: Afterlife, received 20%. I saw it this weekend and thought it was awesome in the can't-take-this-seriously-and-never-will sort of way. It did stay true to the video game, though, which lots of people were happy about.

But anyway, hope you guys have had a great semester so far. Until next time!
