8.30.10

Welcome back everyone!

School is now in full swing. There are new students on campus and lots of cool activities to do. Now that I'm a sophomore I feel more empowered. Looking at the freshmen wandering aimlessly around campus reminds me of how I acted the first day of school last year. Now it's a lot better; I'm used to the campus and know people who have classes with me.

I'm taking a lot of new classes this year, mostly business classes though, there are a lot of prerequisite courses for business majors. I'm also taking a lot of core requirements, like my science credit and theology credit. Next semester I'll be taking lots more core requirements; finishing my philosophy requirements is ideal.

This semester I'm the VP of Service for the Honors Council. I have to plan a few events every semester, and this year I've already planned something at a recycling center. It's pretty cool, we have two 4-hour shifts and 12 people total that are needed to help out. I'm also wanting to schedule a River Clean-Up and maybe a soup kitchen event.

This year I'm working as a Spanish pronunciation tutor for the Learning Center. Basically I help out first and second-year Spanish students with their pronunciation of Spanish words and phrases. It's a half-hour session, and it's cool because I get to see the same students every week and watch them improve on their pronunciation overall. I'm really excited to be able to work there.

Overall this summer was good; I worked a lot, and traveled some, and it was really cool to do new things. Lollapalooza was awesome (as you know from the pictures and my stories), I was reunited with a cousin I hadn't seen in over five years who's in the Navy, I went to St. Louis for the first time and I worked with a great nonprofit organization for the entire summer. It was a pretty rewarding summer overall :)
